Lessons from Two Years of Tropical Legumes II: Second Annual Review and Planning Meeting 16–20 November 2009, Bamako, Mali
Summary
Lessons from the first two years of the TLII Project, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), which aimed to bring about significant increases in the productivity and production of tropical legumes to improve farmers’ income, nutrition quality, and livelihoods in the drought-prone areas of sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. It was predicted that the productivity and production of tropical legumes would increase by 15%; some 30% of area planted to these crops would be covered with improved varieties; and approximately 57 million poor farmers would benefit from them within 10 years, resulting in an annual aggregate additional value of over US$300 million.
